COL. MATT R. HARGAN TO BE BANK RECEIVER Stanford Man Appointed for Fleming Post by Comptroller of Currency [Specia] to The Herald] STANFORD, Ky., Sept. 20-Col. Matt R. Hargan has been appointed receiver by the comptroller of the currency for the First National bank of Fleming. Library Books Sought The Stanford public school has inaugurated a campaign to increase the number of books in the grade and high school library. Prizes will be given to the students in each grade securing the greatest number of worth-while books. Thieves Steal Saddles Thieves Saturday night entered the barn of J. H. Murphy on the Hustonville pike and stole two fine saddles, several blankets and bridles valued at about $300. Mrs. Mattie Shick, of Wray, Colo., is the guest of her brothers, W. P. and E. H. Newell and famMrs. William Tribble, of Day tona, Fla., is the guest of Mrs. Will P. Grimes. Dr. and Mrs. W. B. Cunningham and children spent last week in attending the fair Mrs. Thomas Phillips and chil dren, Thomas, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann. of Lexington, have been her Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Mc Roberts. Miss Florence Denham is attending Normal at Richmond. Mrs. C. W. Pendleton, of Louisville, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. J. W. Bryant. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Rees have been the guests of his Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Rees, at Pleasureville. Mrs. Will Hays was the week-end guest of her daughter, Mrs. Will Newell, and Mr. Newell. Dr. J. M. Metcalfe, of Lancaster, has been the guest of his daughter, Miss Docia Metcalfe. Mr. and Mrs. June H. Reid, of Richmond, have been the guests of Dr. and Mrs. W. Pennington. Miss Lyles Cooper, of Asheville, N. C., joined Mrs. J. O. Reid, John Owsley Reid and Miss Lucile Cooper and Miss Lucile Reid on a visit to the Century of Progress. Miss Cooper will remain there and continue her work for another year as teacher in the State School for the Deaf. Mrs. J. H. Wright has returned to Lexington after visit to her sister, Mrs. Harry Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Wright expect to move to Huntington next week. Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Gover, of Louisville. were here Saturday en route to Crab Orchard to see his mother, Mrs. Maggie J. T. McRoberts. of Clarksville, Texas, the guest of his brother, H. J. McRoberts. and Mrs. McRob. erts. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Coleman are at Martinsville, Ind., for a week's visit. Beverly Chancellor is attending the Century of Progress exposition this week Mr. and Mrs. Sam M. Fulkerson, of Louisville, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Beazley Misses Esther and Mary Burch spent today in Louisville.
