Youthful Bandits Rob Closed Bank of Cash In Vault Bank Receiver and Assistant Held Up With Guns; Amount of Loot Unknown. Durant, Ia.β€”(U.P.)β€”Two men Friday held up the closed Durant Savings bank, herded the receiver and his assistant into a vault, and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash. Harry Kelly, bank receiver, was working over the books of the bank with his assistant, Walter Meinert, when two men entered the bank. They engaged Kelly in discussion on securing a loan for a real estate deal. Force Pair Into Vault. When Meinert came over to join the conversation, the two bandits pulled revolvers from their overcoat pockets and announced that they were holding up the bank. They forced the pair into the vault but did not lock it, took what cash was in the vault and cashier's cage, and fled eastward toward Davenport in a bright-colored coupe. Loot $50 to $1,000. Kelly declined to say how much money had been taken pending a checkup of the cash. He said it may have been around $40 or $50 and may have run up to nearly $1,000. The bandits were described as youthful, one about 28 years old, the other about 35. Both wore dark clothing.

LAND CONVEYED TO AVOID PAYMENT OF $9,300 DEBT CLAIM Claiming that the conveyance was made in order to avoid payment of an obligation of $9,380, D. W. Bates as receiver of the Durant Savings bank Saturday filed a petition in the Scott county district court asking that a deed of Scott and Grundy county lands by August and Sophia Triemers to Meta and Thomas Pohlmann, Bennett, be set aside. The property deeded is a one-seventh interest in 438 acres of Scott and 160 acres of Grundy county land which came in August Triemer's hands under the estate of his father and mother, William and Magdalena Triemers. The defendant, it is claimed, assigned these interests to the bank as security for a $9,500 loan in 1926 along with a chattel mortgage on his personal property and then later conveyed the land to the Pohlmanns. A writ of attachment has also been issued out of the Muscatine county district court in favor of the Durant bank receiver to protect his interests in the two properties which have been made the object of a landlord's attachment suit by the Beirkamp estate. France & France of Tipton are attorneys for the receiver.
