BANK FAILS TO OPENS ITS DOORS

DONNELLSON, III., Jan. 4.The State bank of Donnellson failed to open its doors here today. Frozen assets were blamed for the bank's suspension. The bank's capital is $30,000 and deposits total $125,000. C. F. and F. E. Mansfield are president and cashier of the bank respectively.

BANKER KILLS SELF AFTER DOORS CLOSE Official Suicide When Frozen Assets Cause Suspension of Business. By the Associated Press. DONNELLSON, Ill., January 6. Charles G. Mansfield, 70, president of the State Bank of Donnellson, which was closed Saturday by the board of directors, shot and killed himself in his home here early yesterday. The banker's body was found in the basement of his home by a son, Paul, who rushed downstairs when he heard a shot: A pistol was found near the body. A coroner's verdict later was that Mansfield had shot and killed himself with suicidal intent. Dr. A. B. Cary, a witness, testified that Mansfield had been extremely nervous for several days and had remarked that he would be "better off out of the picture" since he had $25,000 life insurance. The Bank of Donnellson was closed because of frozen assets, due to loans on farm lands.
