Bank's Shortage $18,000; Cashier Freed on Bond STAUNTON, Va., Aug. 30.-Hon. E. B. Jones, member of the State legislature from Highland county, has been appointed receiver for the Farmers Bank of Highland, the doors of which were closed after B. J. Woodward, State bank examiner, announced that discrepancies were apparent in the bank's accounts. This announcement was followed by the arrest of John E. Slaven, cashier, on a charge of misappropriation of funds. He is at liberty under bond of $10,000 for his ap. pearance before the October term grand jury of the Highland County Circuit This Court. Slaven waived a preliminary hearing. The bank, which is located at Doe Hill, is expected to be reopened within a short time. Depositors and stockholders are not expected to lose anything. It has been stated by the president, Dr. J. F. Stover, that / the shortage is in the neighborhood of $18,000.
