go to Jones, in Lindsay Block. tf W. J. Young, of Pittsburg, Pa., vice president of the Forest Oil company, arrived in this city yesterday, and is spending a couple of days looking over his company's interest here. This afternoon the Derrick had the pleasure of a short interview with Mr. Young, and in reply to inquiry regarding the probable resumption of activity in the Kansas field soon, he stated that the only thing hindering now, is the low price of oil. Within the past few months. Mr. Young informed the Derrick, European production has increased, by reason of rich new discoveries, 17.000 barrels or more, per day. Heretofore Europe has been a ready market for all the surplus production in America. On the islands of Sumatra and Jaffa, where J. H. Fertig went from here, there has also been a tremendous new production developed this summer. While Pennsylvania oil has declined from 90 to 69c Kansas oil has held to the 40c mark. This is the price being paid now at the refinery of the Standard Oil company to the Forest for crude petroleum delivered to the refinery. For months yet the plant can be kept busy on the stock on hand. A large part of this is royalty oil bought by the Forest from the land owners at 56c, 45c, and 40c per barrel. Mr. Young departs tomorrow for Pennsylvania.-Neodesha Derrick. At a suit commenced some time ago by the Fourth National Bank, of St. Louis, etl. for the appointment of a receiver for the Chanute National Lank to wind up its affairs, Judge Stillwell today appointed D M. Kennedy as such receiver. The bank voluntarily went into liquidation some months ago, but this means a pushing of all claims due the bank and a speedy wind up of its affairs. Moments are useless if trifled away; and they are dangerously wasted if consumed by delay in cases where One Minute Cough Cure would bring immediate relief.-Boschert & Williams. James Midcap of Earlton was in town yesterday. Jno. W. Locke was up from Erie yesterday seeing the sights. J.C. Wardand wife of Shaw attended the show last night. Mrs. J. M. McConnel of Shaw visited relatives in.town this week. C. E. Allison and J. Foster Allen were up from Erie yesterday. J. E. Huls, of Logan, Ohio, isin town visiting his uncle, Prof. J. W. Weltner. Kansas is rapidly acquiring an enviable place on the map in the minds of the people of the entire country. Reports tend to indicate that a very greatly increased acreage of wheat will be sown in this State this year. When Senator Baker names a Leland man for office he has pretty fair success in getting a commission for him. The square is on the right hand side of the ballot this year. Remember this or you will vote the wrong ticket. George L. Banks, of Independence, has received a medal from Congress for meritorious service at Missionary Ridge. Engineer Roper, of the Reform School at Topeka, has been discharged for misconduct. This was not unexpected. Estes, the Populist nominee for Treasurer in Stafford county, has withdrawn and Frank Maxon was placed on the ticket in his place. Levi Ferguson has been appointed postmaster at Wellington. Andy Richards, of the Mail, seems to have lost prestige with the powers that be. Lawson, of Hutchinson, won the $100 prize offered by the National Exocutive committee of the Irrigation Congress for the best paper on irrigation.
