B. McCormick is now out on a stumping tour, and will not be home before September 4. Letters from him tell good tales of success. Everywhere the free silver elements are lining up, and promises are held out that this district is good for 5,000 majority for the people's cause. -Well, it seems as though Kirwin could beat us at base ball, whether in the heavy, middle, or light classes, so we must try something else, and propose an editorial beauty show. We will put Brother Royce up against the two Kirwin editors, and give them the judges. Facial beauty we mean. -The State Bank of Agra has gone into voluntary liquidation, has paid its debts and gone out of business. The bank for some time has not been making any money, and the stockholders decided to discontinue operations. Mr. Morrow will go into other business in Agra, taking an interest in W. H. Barney's store. The Phillips County Bank has charge of all unsettled matters. -Merchants report a big trade Saturday. Quite an element from the Deer and Wolf Creek country were noticed in town. They have been going to Phillipsburg but the existing condition over there at this time does not draw them that way. Let our citizens do the fair thing and we can hold this cash trade and come out winners in the long run. Narrow minded pesmistic views are not healthy for any town and most of the business men realize it too.-Logan Republican. -The Rock Island proposes to build a fence around its property near the pond at this place, as our people have trespasses on good nature in using the pond for so many purposes. Stock has been tied upon the lands and people have used the e waters for bathing, washing buggies S and horses. and as the company wishes to use the water for train purposes, it takes this method of protecting it. Later on a steam pump will be attached to the pipe now laid. -At Agra Monday, a large number S of people enjoyed the noveity of a steam boat ride on the lake at that place. The Rock Island filled up a S bridge, and the rainfall has filled up the basin thus formed until a pond y one-half mile long, and a quarter wide has been formed. The Turner Brothers with commendable entern prise have constructed a boat with a e passenger capacity of about thirty, IS and propelled by steam it made many trips up and down the pond. The people of Agra have much pleasure in store for them.
