K. C. Journal: Sometimes, when contemplating the assets of a burst bank, one's faith in humanity is shaken. The receiver of the insolvent Kirby bank at Abilene recently held an auction sale of uncollectible promissory notes. Their face value was $40,000, but they sold for only $300. However, this is a little better per cent than that realized from notes owed to the late J. P. Johnson, a banker of Doniphan county. Among his papers were notes aggregating $100,000, of which not a cent was collected.
