THE SOUTH. NEWS comes from Pickens county, Ala., that a mob broke into the jail and killed three colored men and one woman who were in jail charged with murdering a family by poisoning them. Two new cases of yellow fever have been bulletined at Brunswick, Ga. No deaths occurred. NEAR Millersville post office, Tenn., the residence of Milton Myers was totally destroyed by fire and three children, aged 10, S and 3 years, were burned. The rest of the family barely escaped. LETTERS to Henry Hotter, secretary of the Memphis Cotton exchange, from various points show that the cotton crop has been seriously damaged and cut short. COAL CREEK. Tenn., soldiers supposed to be implicated in the lynching of Richard Drummond, a few weeks ago, have been arrested. At the request of Gen. Fite they were taken to the Knox county jail, to thwart any attempt on the part of friends to liberate them. THE Wilmington, N. C., cotton mills, after a suspension of four weeks, will resume work September 25. THREE brothers of Roselius Julian, who murdered Judge Estopinal, were taken from prison in Jefferson parish, La., and lynched by a mob. THE Frankfort. Ky., national bank is about to close its doors and quit business. JOHN B. GORDON, the general commanding the United Confederate veterans, has issued an order postponing indefinitely the reunion of the organiization, which was to have been held in Birmingham, Ala., the first of next month. AT Leitchfield, Ky., five prisoners escaped from the county jail by cutting through a brick wall and letting themselves down by means of blankets tied together. Gov. TILLMAN, of South Carolina, says that full control of the relief work for the storm sufferers is in the hands of the Red Cross society, with headquarters at Beaufort, and all contributions should be sent to the society. A RIOT occurred at the big Riverside iron works, Wheeling. W. Va., when the plant resumed. About 500 Hungarians tried to take the places of Americans. A fight with clubs and stones ensued. AN iron bridge on the Southern Pacific railroad, six miles above New Orleans, went down with a train the other night. Six men were blown to pieces by a boiler explosion at Conley's Creek, Swain county, N. C. THE employes of the Marshaltown iron works, Wilmington, Del., went out on a strike as a result of a notice that all wages would be reduced. OWINGSVILLE, Ky., has been ravaged by fire. Loss, $150,000. THE remains of President Polk and his wife have been removed from the old family residence to the Tennessee state canitol grounds.
