Description

A run began June 27, 1905 after announcement of a shortage by Cashier Conzman (bank-specific adverse information). The bank 'closed its doors' on June 28 and a national bank examiner investigated; there is no clear article evidence the bank permanently failed or later reopened, so I classify as run → suspension with outcome unsure. OCR corrected 'SOOD' to 'room' not relevant; cashier name taken as Conzman per article.

BANK GIVES FORGED NOTES AS SECURITY Missouri Failure Uncovers Peculiar Financial Methods. CLINTON, Mo., June 27.-It is reported to-day, but not confirmed, that alleged forgeries of notes used by the closed bank of Salmon & Salmon as securities amounted to nearly $100,000. State Bank Examiner Cook declined today to indicate the amount of the forged notes. 'I cannot give the amount," said Cook. "The Kansas City State Bank, which lent $150,000 to the Salmon & Saimon Bank, holds $307,000 worth of securities of the Salmon Bank-more than sufficient to cover the loans, even after the straw notes have been deducted from that amount." TERRE HAUTE, Ind., June 27.When the doors of the Vigo County Bank opened this morning a number of depositors were in line to withdraw their money. The withdrawals continued steady, though in an orderly manner. DUNKIRK, N. Y., June 27.-The run started yesterday on the Lake Shore National Bank of Dunkirk has subsided. Less than a dozen persons were in line at the paying teller's window when the bank opened to-day.

Run on a Bank. Terre Haute, Ind., June 27.-Following the announcement of the shortage of Cashier Conzman, a run was started on the Vigo county bank. A crowd of depositors that filled the bank SOOD gathered, and the line extended to the sidewalk. All demands for deposits were promptly met. The withdrawals continued until the regular closing hour, 3:30 o'clock. No estimate of the amount withdrawn has been made, but it is understood to be small. The largest individual depositor checked out was $8,000. Other banking institutions came to the assistance of the Vigo county bank and funds were transferred during the day to meet any possible contingency. Private individuals with heavy deposits in other banks withdrew their money and placed it at the disposal of President Hudnut.
