Skipper, former Sebring banker, was under indictment today on charges of embezzling $57,500 in notes and cash belonging to the Highlands County bank, which now is operating under a conservator. The bank suspended April 14. The indictment contains several counts. Bond was set at $10,000. FORMER BANKER INDICTED BY JURY C. A. Skipper Charged With Embezzlement SEBRING, Fla., May 4. (P)-The Highlands county grand jury, in a partial presentment yesterday, returned indictments against C. A. Skipper, former Sebring banker, charging him with larceny and embezzlement of $57,000 in notes and cash from the Highlands County Bank. The bank suspended April 14, and is operating under conservator. The indictment contained several counts. They allege the occurred during 1931 and 1932. One indictment charges Skipper with taking a tax certificate from a local attorney Bond was set at $10,000 by Judge Barker at the request of J. C. Adkins, Gainesville, acting state attorney.

Bank Inquiry in Highlands To Be Resumed Tomorrow SEBRING. May (Special. The Highlands county grand jury Monday will resume investigation into the affairs of the Highlands County bank. which suspended April 21 and is now operated under conservator. Bank officials. and officers of several 'ocal corporations have been summoned to appear before the grand jury with records. Those served last night and today by the sheriff's office the companies whose records will be scrutinized follow: E. J. Etheredge and F. T. Haskins, Corporate Investments. Inc Gregg Maxcy and C. E. Lien, Highlands Ban corporation: Charles Clements, Sebring Land company; F. T. Haskins, Highlands Securities corporation: George E. Sebring, The Sebring company E. J. Etheredge D. S. Skipper, W. H. Durrance and R. O. Baker, Sebring Cattle company. C. A. Skipper, recently indicted on six charges of larceny and embezzlement of $57.500 in cash and notes from the Highlands County bank, and the larceny of a tax certificate from a local attorney. is expected to file motions to quash the indictments Monday morning It also was said a change of venue might be sought and that an effort would be made to have Circuit Judge Barker disqualified from presiding at any trials which might result from the inquiry. The grand jury has been in recess since May when the Skipper indictments were returned. The advisor is State Attorney J. C. Bond Trustees Settle Highlands Bank Claim The Highlands county bond trustees' claim of $5202 against the Highlands County bank, recently suspended and now operating under conservator, has been settled for $8000 in county and Sebring school bonds. The settlement was made by Conservator E. P. Martin. approved by the state comptroller and confirmed by Circuit Court Judge Barker.
