LOCAL BANK OPEN UNDER Under the provisions of the law recently enacted by the Vermont Legislature, the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance has appointed L. Ray Thurston, Conservator of the Hardwick Savings Bank and Granite Trust Company. This step is taken in the interest of and for protection of the bank's depositors to conserve its assets and permit time for readjustment. Until such readjustment is effected the Conservator is authorized by the Bank Commissioner to accept new checking and savings deposits subject to withdrawal at any time. The Conservator is required to maintain such deposits, either in cash, Liberty Bonds, or on deposit in a member of the Federal Reserve System for call at any time. The bank will continue to render every service possible to its patrons. We regret the inconvenience occasioned by the tying up of all old accounts, for the present. Every effort is being made to proceed as expeditiously as possible in conjunction with the depositors to bring about a sound reorganization of the bank that it may continue to serve its depositors and communities in which it operates. Fully realizing the inconvenience caused in many cases we ask that our patrons be as patient as possible and give us their assistance in working out our mutual banking problem which we feel will make us a better bank for this community.
