SATURDAY'S NEWS James Owen of Bly was in Ashland yesterday attending the funeral of his brother, the late George Owen. Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. McMillan, who have been spending a few days in Ashland this week with their daughter and sister, Mrs. Will M. Dodge, left this morning for their home in Portland. Leslie Heer left today for Hilts, where he will be employed during the summer vacation at one of the logging camps in that section. A. R. Watkins and daughters, Lurline and Lillian, of Dunsmuir, are guests at the home of Mrs. Max Pracht for a few days this week. The First National Bank, of which Mr. Owen was a director. closed yesterday afternoon during the funeral, and several county officers were in attendance from Jacksonville. The death of Mr. Owen is universally felt throughout the county where he had been closely associated with its interests, and had held many positions of honor and trust. He was president of the Southern Oregon Stock asso( ciation, and was a county stock inspector until his election as county commissioner four years d ago. He was also one of the founders of the First National io bank, continuing as a director unti til his death, and was associated P with D. This was a large touring car and it is the intention of the company to make regular trips through this section all summer Ashland will not be one of the relay stops, evidently. as the car went through here with only a brief pause. Its appearance created considerable interest among those who observed its initial appearance. Mrs. H. F. Pohland left today for Marshfield, where she expects E to remain for some time with her daughter.
