Domestic Fire of unknown origin which destroyed five buildings at Farmersville, III., was brought under control after causing $20,000 damage. The loss is partly covered by insurance. *** The failure of two Ohio banks was announced when William Bloomfield was appointed receiver of the People's bank of Sycamore and the Bloomville Exchange bank of Bloomville. Both banks are owned by George A. Klaf of Sycamore. * * + Speeding forty miles an hour, a motor handcar, laden with track laborers, crashed into a freight train on the Central New England railroad, near Pleasant Valley, N. Y. Four of the laborers were killed and five were mortally injured.

Domestic The result of the vote on a new city charter, Middletown, Ohio, was announced and showed the proposal had carried by 98 majority. The commission form of government is provided. Frederick Evans, for many years private secretary to Garret A. Hobart, former vice-president of the United States and a director in many traction and transportation corporations, was stricken with heart disease in the office of the Wall Street Journal in New York, where he is employed as chief editorial writer. Majority Leader Levy of the assembly announced that he would introduce a resolution in the New York assembly to impeach Governor Sulzer "for willful and corrupt conduct in office and for high crimes and misdemeanors." One thousand of the 2,500 Michigan state troops who have been on guard in the Calumet copper region during the strike of 18,000 miners have been withdrawn and their places filled with armed special deputy sheriffs. Mercer, Pa., the county seat, was partially devastated by a fire which caused half a million dollars loss and which for a time threatened to wipe out the town. Two big barns, a garage, three dwellings and two office buildings fell prey to the flames.
