CASHIER, SHORT $200,000, HELD Ohio Banker Admits Responsibility, But Denies Embezzlement. BRIDGEPORT. O., April 22.-With reported shortage of $200,000. the Bridgeport Bank company today is closed with state bank examiners in charge, while William E. Thomas, cashier, is in custody at the county jail in St. Clairsville. Thomas, while admitting his responsibility for the shortage, according to J. C. Heinlein, president of the bank, declares the shortage was caused by carrying bad notes in the bank and not through embezzlement.

BANK CLOSED, CASHIER HELD Columbus, Ohio, April The Bridgeport Bank Company. operating state bank at Bridgeport, Belmont county, was closed today following discovery of a $300,000 discrepancy in the institution's counts, State Banking Superintendent E. H. Blair. who is at Bridgeport investigating the case, telephoned his office here today. W. E. Thomas, cashier of the bank, was under arrest in connection with the shortage.

Bridgeport, O., April 22.-A notice stating the Bridgeport Bank Company had been closed by the directors pending the examination of the records was posted on the doors of the concern's new banking room this morning. A bank official was said to have confessed to defalcations that may approximate $200,000. The shortage in the Bridgeport bank was reported to the directors last night following audit of its affairs.
