From Springtield. SPRINGFIELD, Dec. 6.-A law question of some interest is just now under discussion in this city. Some time since Wm Wheeler, Esq., Sheriff of Macon county, by the failure of the Railroad Bank at Decatur, became a defaulter to the State for about $15,000 for taxes collected by him. Subsequently suit was brought against the sureties on Mr. Wheeler's bond, and a judgment obtained. Execution has been issued to satisfy this judgment, and here arises the polut, Mr. Thomas Lewis, the owner of the Railroad Bank, is one of Mr. Wheeler's bondsmen. and the other bond-men insist, as Mr. Wheeler became a defaulter through the collapse of Mr. Lewis' bank, and as Mr. Lewis had the benefit of the money, that he alone onght to sati-fy the execution. The United States District Court. sitting as :4 Court of Admiralty, in this city, has adjourned. Several important cases have been continued for future hearing. Col. Morrison. UnitedStates Superintendent of the recruiting service in this State, has so far recovered from his recent illuess as to be again able to attend to business in his office. There are now only about 200 recruits remaining at Camp Yates, the THE having gone forward to join their respective regiments. On Thursday, as the evening train on the Great Western Railroad was approaching town. it ran into a drove of cattle on the taack, killing and crippling seven. They helonged to Mr. Loose, and had broken out of their pasture. The locomotive whistle had become deranged, and would not blow. which caused the accident. The train was only temporarily delayed. Judge Peters. Republican. is declared elected from the 9th Senatorial district, which makes the Senate stand twelve Republicans to thirteen Democrats.
