Telegraphic Brevities. The President to-day appointed a number of postmasters but none for Virginia. A dispatch from Prarie City, Ia., says the Citiizens Bank of that place failed yesterday with liabilities estimated at over $75,000 Upon reaching Woking privon Mrs. Maybrick was examined by the prison physician, and upon his orders she was placed in the infirmary. The steamship Columbia, of the Hamburg Line, has again broken the record between Southampton and New York, making the run in 6 days, 18 hours and 20 minutes. At noon to-day the franchises, tracks, etc, of the Broadway, New York, Surface Railroad were sold at auction for $25,000. Col. Daniel Lamont was the purchaser. There was no other bid. When the Cronin case was called in Chicago this morning the State's Attorney announced the readiness of the prosecution to proceed with the trial. A special venire for fifty jurors was ordered to be at once issued, returnable at 2 o'clock. Duke Alexander, of Oldenburg, General Commandant of the corps of the Russian Guards and A ijutant General to the Cz:r, recently tendered his resignation owing to the anti-German tone which at pro sent pervades Fussian politics. The Czar declined to accept the resignation but gave the Duke eleven months leave of absence.
