Hon. John T. Griffith, of Kane, spent a few hours in town on Wednesday.
George Davis, formerly of this place, but now one of Johnstown's leading painters, visited friends here this week.
Shortly after 10 o'clock on Saturday morning last the banking firm of Johnston, Buck & Co., of this place, closed its doors—a temporary suspension only, and the result of the failure of B. K. Jamison & Co., bankers of Philadelphia, with whom Johnston, Buck & Co., did their eastern business, and where a considerable sum was on deposit from the Ebensburg bank. Anticipating a "run" on the bank, which was inevitable, Mr. Buck closed the doors as above stated. There was little alarm or uneasiness upon the part of depositors as every one of them has implicit confidence in A. W. Buck, Esq., cashier.
