SEWARD FINANCIAL CONDITION IS GOOD, SAYS BALDERSTON PRESIDENT BALDERSTON DECLARES NO NECESSITY TO CLOSE HERE FOUR DAYS The Bank of Seward received a telegram Sunday from the Territorial Banking Board at Juneau advising that Gov. George A. Parks had proclaimed a Territorial banking holiday, from Monday, March 6 to the 9th inclusive, pending legislation action, at the option of banks, the proclamation not being mandatory. President H. S. Balderston of the Bank of Seward wired Gov. Parks Sunday that he saw no reason for remaining closed for four days as there is no local emergency exlisting, and that it would generally disrupt the course of business, and that his institution would remain open. MUST BE OBEYED However, President Roosevelt's Sunday evening mandatory proclamation for a national banking holiday from Monday to Thursday inclusive must be obeyed and leaves no alternative but to close for the specified time. President Balderston regrets that previous announcement could not have been made, but the proclamation was entirely unexpected here. He further said that Seward is in an excellent financial condition, especially considering the situation in the States, and trusts the patrons of the Bank will not be too much inconvenienced by the four days suspension of business. The Bank will reopen for business as usual on Friday morning.
