First National Bank at Hartley Closes (Register's Special Iowa Hartley March 18.-The First National bank suspended business here today and was taken in charge national bank examiners. The bank with capital of $75,000 has deposits of approximately $325,000. Davis president, and A. F. Hansen is cashier.

PAULLINA PAPER CHANGES HANDS Former Boyden Editor to Make Improvements in New Plant. Paullina, Ia., March 3.-Special: Jacob A. Van Zwol, late of the Boyden Reporter, Boyden, Ia., has taken possession of The Paullina Times. Mr. Van Zwol purchased the paper February 1, but was unable to take possession until March 1. He expects to make many improvements. W. J. Lyons the retiring editor, purchased paper about a year ago from Richard Closson. CARROLL MAN BURNED IN FURNACE GAS EXPLOSION Carroll, Ia., March 3.-Special: William Subbert, Carroll, escaped from furnace explosion in his home with burned hair and eyebrows, and a COVering soot. Subbert went to the basement of his home fire the furnace, but corncobs and coal that he piled on the fire failed to burn readily, merely smolHering and emitting smoke and gasses. Without stopping think of the consequences, Subbert thrust a lighted match through the chimney damper into the smoke and coal gas. The result was an explosion which set fire to the chimney and burned Subbert. ERECTION OF MOVABLE HOG HOUSES WILL BE TAUGHT Emmetsburg, Ia., March 3.-Special: The Palo Alto County Farm bureau will conduct a demonstration of the erection of movable hog houses in this county. The first demonstration will be held in Graettinger, March 15, and in Mallard March 16. Plans for the construction of these buildings will be distributed at each demonstration. It is claimed that no wo-pen building can be built for about $35. BOY SHOT BY PLAYMATE LIES AT DEATH'S DOOR Mason City, Ia., March 3.-Special Davie Spencer, 9, is in hospital in critical condition with a 38-caliber pullet through his right shoulder. The revolver was fired by Jimmie Tichnor, his playmate, who told police hat. he was "playing cowboy.' The boys got the revolver from the huntng pack of Jimmie's father. They vere staging an "injun' hunt when fimmie accidentally pulled the trig. LOAD OF HAY UPSETS AND DRIVER IS HURT Battle Creek, Ia., March 3.-Special: Harry Seehausen, near Creek, upset with a load of hay. He was unconscious an hour but it was found no bones were broken. He suffered a broken blood vessel in his right eye. Club President Re-Elected. Emmetsburg. Ia., March 3.-Special: At the annual meeting of the Comnunity club here, As Swanton was re-elected president; Earl M. Beebe vas re-elected first vice president, Dan Kelly was elected second vice presilent. and W. H. Morling was elected reasurer. School Founder's Wife Dies. Waterloo, Ia., March 3.-(P)-Mrs. Laurence Jones, wife of the founder of the Piney Woods country life school for negro youths. Piney Woods, Miss., is dead there, friends were advised today. Mrs. Jones was a native of Burlington and a graduate of the high school there. Mr. Jones is a Marshalltown man. New Auto Firm Formed. Lake City, Ia., March 3.-Special Gordon brothers have leased the News building, which has been vacant since he conselidation of the News and Graphic, last spring. The new firm has converted the building into mod ern automobile sales room and has opened with a display of cars. New Bank Receiver Named. Hartley, Ia., March 3.-Special: M. E. Murray, receiver for the closed First National bank of Hartley, has been succeeded by M. Kirkman, reeiver of the First National bank of Young Coaster Is Injured. Melvin, Ia., March 3.-Special: Keneth Frey, 17. eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frey, died of infantile aralysis after a month's illness. Rat Trap Factory Opened. Marshall, Minn., March 3.-Special: The Warner Trap company. a firm nanufacturing and marketing new nvention for capturing rats, has opned offices in Marshall. D. D. Warer, Hamilton, N. D., who invented he unique rat trap, will be the active nanager of the business. Attorney B. B. Gislason of this city also will be a member of the firm.
