PIONEER SPENCER RESIDENT IS BORNE TO GRAVE
Spencer, Special: Ackley Hubbard. 82. of International Falls, Minn., pioneer resident and business man of Spencer, was buried here from the Episcopal church. Mr. Hubbard came to Clay county homestead in 1869 and was electd clerk of courts in 1872. He studied law during the time he was in ofand when his second term ex In 1876 he began the practice here. He was interested In several lines of business also, one being real estate. He was at one time Vice president of the state association of undertakers. He filled a position in the Clay County Nationbank here also and was one of the organizers of the Citizens National bank. In 1893, following the death of W. Miller. president of the First National bank, he went into that bank for a while, later gooing Toy to Sioux City to work in the bank. From here Mr. Hubbard went to Minneapolis the and again engaged in banking business, from which retired several years ago. He was with a son at International Fair at the time of his death. He is ter. survived by two sons and a daugh-

LAKE VIEW BUSINESS MEN ORGANIZING CLUB Lake View, Ia.-Special: Fiftyfive of the community's business and professional men held a banquet, the purpose being to organize commercial or community club. The group was entertained by Ray Cobb, of Sac City. A temporary organization was affected with W. M. Dean, former state representative, as chairman, and Joseph Nyby as secretary. A committee of seven men to draft constitution and by-laws was elected, and consists of W. M. Dean, E. E. Speaker, Frank Krejgi, A. E. Olerich, Carl Staab, C. C. Weitzein and C. W. Zeilman. The next meeting will be held early in January.
FATHER OF INJURED BOY GETS VERDICT FOR $900 Algona, Ia.-Special: A judgment of $900 was awarded Jess Riddle in his suit against John Frankl in district court here. The jury was out 12 hours. This case grew out of an accident, April 30, in which Wayne Riddle, 16, son of Jess, was hit by car driven by Mrs. Frankl as he was coming from school. Riddle sued for $5,000. Mrs. Frankl's insurance company went into the hands of a receiver shortly after the accident.
DOMESTIC QUARREL ENDS IN SUICIDE OF IOWAN
Council Bluffs, Ia.-(P)-Pete Nelson, 47, died in local hospital today a few minutes after swallowing poison in his home as the climax of a domestic quarrel. In the presence of his divorced wife, Goldie, who returned after several weeks' pleading on Nelson's part, and his half-brother, Howard Wilson, Nelson swallowed the poison. Besides his wife and half-brother, a son, James, 5, survives.
INDIGENT PATIENT CARE COSTS STATE $82,742
Des Moines, Ia.-(P)-Care and treatment of approximately 2,300 indigent patients at the University hospital at Iowa City in November cost the state $82,742, according to records of State Auditor J. W. Long. Warrants issued by the auditor included $54,790 for room and board. $17,710 for special fees and $14,982 for transportation.
MARCUS TO CHEROKEE ROAD GETTING GRAVEL Cherokee, Ia.-Special: Work of graveling primary road No. 5 from Marcus to Cherokee has been started by the Evans Construction company and probably will be completed in the next two Forty trucks hauling the gravel which is being distributed 1,000 yards to the mile.
Seeks State Office
Des Moines, a.-(P)-0. K. Maben of Garner, former state legislator and farm leader, announced_his candidacy for the republican nomination for state treasurer. Maben was member of the 30th and 31st general assemblies has been active in farm affairs in Hancock county for a long period of years. He was a pio. neer in farm work and farm mutual insurance activities.
Closed Breca Bank to Pay
Klinker, in district court here, signed an order authorizing the receiver of the Farmers' State bank of Breda to pay second dividend of 25 per cent. This makes a total dividend of 45 per cent paid to depositors of the defunct bank. The receiver also was authorized to sell the personal property of the bank. F. Van Erdewyk, H. J. Bruning, and F. J. Bohnenkamp were named appraisers.
Rural School Set Afire
Boone, Ia.-Special: Incendiarism is suspected by officials of the Diamond rural school southwest of here. Investigating a blaze, they found a rag saturated with kerbsene or gasoline which had been fired. Because the building was damp from recent rains, it was not much damaged.
Horse's Kick Brings Death Modale, Ia.-Special: George Beebee, long a resident of Modale, died in an Omaha hospital. Mr. Beebeee had been ill for several years with a cancer, caused by a hors ekicking him in the side.
