Oskaloosa, Dec. 9.-An unsuccessful attempt was made to rob the safe in the Iowa Savings Bank at Tracv. west of here. early this morning. Several charges of nitro-glycerine were exploded, opening the vault doors, but a charge in the safe was left unexploded as the robbers fled. They had taken the precaution to cut the telegraph and telephone wires, shutting the town off from all communication. They escaped on a hand car stolen at the railway station. Illinois Bank Fails. Macon, Ill., Dec. 9.-The Farmers and Merchants' Bank failed to open today, following a run yesterday. The deposits were $100.000.
