THE GOOD TIMES. They come in Klondike nuggets. Here are some of them-note the dates: MARQUETTE, Mich., Jan. 22.-James M. Wilkinson, a private banker, assigned at 9 o'clock this morning. The following notice was posted on the door: James M. Wilkinson, being dengerously ill and believing that his end is near, in order to protect the interests of his creditors, assigns with the expectancy of paying in full. ST. CLOUD, Minn., Jan. 25.-Andrew J. Smith, owner of the Citizens bank at Sauk Center, today filed a deed of assignment to Lucas Kells, cashier of the Bank of Sauk Center. There has been a run on the bank during the past few weeks and Smith has been transferring his property. Nothing is known here as to assets and liabilities but they will be very large. The failure is due to extensive holdings in real estate which have depreciated. Smith had invested in Minneapolis real estate alone at one time not less than $22,000 which was lost through mortgaging the property. It is reported here that poor people have been caught with all their savings in the bank. This man, Smith, has been one of the greatest grinders of the faces of the poor that has ever lived in this state. He has, of course, supported the gold bug policy; and it is pleasant to note that the dragon which he intended should deyour others has eaten up himself. And here's another item: ALBERT LEA, Minn., Jan. 25.-Hartland, this county, has its fifth or sixth business failure in the past two years, S. S. Tveit being the dealer to go to the wall this time. He made an assignment this afternoon to T. V. Knatvoid, of this city. The liabilities said to be $1,000 and assets are claimed at about the same. And here's another: William G. Crishman and Francis I.. Winch, copartners in the carriage business, as Crshman & Winch, of St. Paul, filed a deed of assignment yesterday to William H. Williams. The Thompson Rubber company filed a deed of assignment yesterday to Thomas R. Kane. So it goes. I. D.
