The late rise has been so rapid that a reaction was be expected. The Exchange market is very firm. Sterling, Francs 328% A5274 The act of incorporation of the Fulton Bank having expired, that institution is transacting its business under the general law. The trustees of the old company have given notice that they will on the 1st of May pay to all stockholders who have not transferred their shares to the present Fulton Bank. the par value of $30 for each share of their stock and a surplus dividend of 5 per cent. out of the funds remaining on bond. At Charleston on the 13th, the Banks had been purchasing Sterling at 614 per cent. premium: rates more favor. able to sellers, will be granted shortly. On France out-door sales have been effected at 5f:35: on the North, the offers at the Banks are taken at 3/4 per cent. discount, time off. FreightsFor Liverpool and Havre remain unchanged- for square and 9-16 for round bales for the former. and 1 ye for the latter place: on the North, unsettled and rather dull-New.York, 50 cents for square bales, 25 cents for Rice: Boston, $1 for Cotton and 75 cents for Rice. At Mobile on the 8th, Exchanges were steady, with about as much offering as the market requires, Alabama notes are in little request, with sales to-day at 91/2 a 10 discount. Freights-An American ship has been engaged for Ghent and Antwerp at 1% one for Havre at %e, and & British ship for Liverpool at 7-16d. At New-Orleans on the Sth the demand for Exchange was quite active, and drawers were obtaining full rates. Sterling 6 a 65 per cent. prem.; Francs 5 37 / a 5 40 : New. York, 60 days, 2624 per cent. dis.; Sight Checkslel's per cent. dis. Bicknell's Reporter says: Money is somewhat more is demand. Our Banks have raised the rate of interest to 6 per cent. Our City Councils have authorized the building committee of Girard College to dispose of State stock to the extent of $75,000. or rather to such an extent as will realize that sun in cash. In consequence of recent attempts to counterfeit the three dollar notes of the Bank of Smyrna, the Directors have ordered that all notes of the denomination of three dollars of the plate attempted to be counterfeited, be withdrawn from circulation. and cancelled. A run was made upon the Bank of Florida at Talishasse on the 27th and 20th ult. in consequence of the news of the unacceptance of the drafts on Mr. Kennedy in this city. The Bank sustained itself with specie and Georgia and South Carolina funds until further news was received of the accep. tance of the drafts here of another house. The Floridian, speaking of the Florida Bank, says: While we have not yet lost our confidence in the ultimate payment of the liabilities of the Bank, we doubt if the institution can go on much longer under the present arrangement. The Bank, to regain the confidence of the people, must pay specie at its counter for its bills." The President of the institution, Mr. Graham, is said to be in New- York endeavoring to effect some arrangements by which the Bank may be able to continue its existence.
