Description

The bank suspended in April 1933 (articles give April 14 and April 21 as suspension dates). Suspension appears tied to alleged embezzlement by former banker C. A. (May) Skipper — i.e., bank-specific adverse information. A conservator was appointed and the institution did not resume normal independent operations; by Nov 1933 it is described as the closed Highlands County bank paying dividends to creditors under a conservator, indicating permanent closure/receivership rather than a simple temporary reopening. One article mentions reopened under conservator, likely referring to operations under conservatorship, but later evidence (dividend payments, description as closed) shows it remained closed to normal business.
