Description

Article 1 (Evening Star, 1926-09-14) explicitly lists 'Bank of Hazelhurst' among 15 Georgia banks that have re-opened after having been closed with the failure of the Bankers' Trust Co. of Atlanta. This indicates the bank suspended operations and then reopened. The immediate trigger was the failure of a correspondent/chain (Bankers' Trust Co. of Atlanta). Article 2 (Macon Telegraph, 1931) is heavily OCR-corrupted; it alludes to panic and that the Bank of Hazlehurst 'was forced [to close?]' but the text is unclear and does not provide a reliable date or clear separate event. I therefore classify the main documented episode as a suspension followed by reopening in 1926. Corrected OCR: 'Bank of Hazelhurst' in Article 1 is the Bank of Hazlehurst (Hazlehurst, GA).
