at the Bennington and Rutland Railroad roundhouse at Rutland, Vt., and took a run of nine miles down the main line be- fore being captured. Dr. Francis E. Clark, founder and president of the United Society of Chris- tian Endeavor, left Boston recently, ac- companied by his wife, for his third mis- sionary tour through the world. The firm of H. C. Wainwright & Co., bankers and brokers, of Boston, have made an assignment. The firm has been carrying a heavy load of United States mining stock on which they were unable to realize. A section gang of nine men was run down on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western tunnel near Oxford, N. J. Two of the party were instantly killed and a third died shortly after being struck. The other six were seriously injured. At a meeting of the American Associa- tion of Inventors and Manufacturers at Washington, D. C., the fol- lowing officers were elected: President, Francis H. Richards, Hartford, Conn.; Vice President, J. C. Anderson, Chicago.

ASSIGNEE PREPARING STATEMENT OF WAINWRIGHT CO.'S AFFAIRS. Boston, Jan. 16.-A statement is being prepared by George C. Lee, Jr., the assignee of H. C. Wainwright & Company, bankers and brokers of 40 State street, whose failure is announced. It is expected the active shares held by the firm will be.sold under the rule on the stock exchange, of which the firm was a member. The firm is composed of three members. Henry C., Arthur and Emory D. Wainwright. The cause of the suspension was the slump in United States Mining shares, which were dealt in extensively. The liabillties are understood to be heavy.
