WASHINGTON NEWS ITEMS OF INTEREST Brief Resume of Happenings of the Week Collected for Our Readers Carson Land belonging to the Shepherd Springs corporation will be sold for taxes by Sheriff Borden of Skamania county at the courthouse in Stevenson on February 27th. Montesano - Charles Thomas of Quinault was elected president of the Grays Harbor County School Director's association last week, succeeding T. D. Gleeson of Brady. Mrs. Edna McLeod, deputy county superintendent, was named secretary. White Salmon - As soon as. the weather permits, asparagus growers along the Columbia river at Bingen and White Salmon-will start preparations for the 1937 "grass" and truck garden produce that has for years made this rich strip of land profitable to owners. Pullman-Two complete buildings under the same roof form the new women's dormitory, rapidly nearing completion on the Washington State college campus. One wing of the building will be opened this month. The hall will have two housemothers and each half of the building will be considered a seperate dormitory in itself. Colfax-Karl W. Moore, Spokane, has filed suit in superior court against Joe Pierce, Colfax, for $292 damages to Moore's car, alleged suffered January 23, when the car hit a mule owned by Pierce on the Inland Empire highway, two miles north of here. Negligence in permitting the mule on the highway unattended was the charge. Pullman-Dr. Mary Kennedy Turner, a graduate of the University of Oregon medical school, has been appointed campus physician under a new permanent health program at Washington State college. Her appointment is for six months, subject to the approval of the board of regents. She is the first regular resident physician to serve here. Hoquiam-Advancing interest in oil drilling activities on the Quinault Indian reservation was forecast today by officials of the Taholah Indian agency who said representatives of a drilling firm sought information this morning concerning leasing 3000 acres of Indian land near Queets. Should the firm make formal application, bids will be called, with other concerns, including the Peoples' Oil and Gas company, expected to seek the properties, the officials said. Rosalia-Checks totaling $63,826, the equivalent of a 30 per cent dividend, will be mailed within a week to 472 depositors of the Whitman County National bank of Rosalia, it was expected by Receiver Thomas A. F. Lally. Checks are en route from Washington, D. C., to the receiver. This will bring repayment because of deposits to 100. per cent. Sufficient remaining assets warrant the belief that the depositors can also be paid the legal 6 per cent interest by the end of this year.
