CROPS IN SKAGIT COUNTY. The Coming Season a Prosperous OneInterest in the Slate Creek Mines. Hon. Henry McBride, judge of the superior court for Skagit and Island counties with residence at Mount Vernon, accompanied by Hon. J. P. Houser, mayor of Mount Vernon and member of the law firm of Million & Houser, arrived in the city last evening and took the first steamer for Coupeville, where Judge MeBride opens a short session of court today. Mr. Houser is one of the attorneys for the receiver of the Island County bank and goes to Coupeville to attend to some litlgation connected with that institution. Both Judge McBride and Mr. Houser speak encouraginly of the financial outlook. Mr. Houser said: "The farmers will have large crops and they have every reason to believe that the season will be a prosperous one for them. All have about fully recovered from the disastrous effects of the late flood and a good yield will put all of them on their feet. There is a good deal of talk up there concerning the opening up of the Slate creek mining district by Col. Hart and a good many Mount Vernon people have gone to the mines, some to prospect and others to secure employment under the colonel."
