# AN ORONDO PIONEER. Dr. J. B. Smith, of Orondo, is in the city today. He is one of the pioneers of Central Washington. He laid out the Orondo townsite many years ago and attempted to make a town of that place. Dr. Smith established a paper there, and out of his own private resourecs kept it going for several years, simply as an advertising medium for the selling of the town lots. The panicky days came on and he could not make a go of the town. E. R. Tyler, now of Brewster and receiver of the defunct Bank of Brewster, was at one time editor of the paper for Mr. Smith. The doctor is a genial and whole-souled pioneer. He owns quite a tract of land just above Orondo, and in the advent of irrigation for that place he will be in good shape financially.
