"ALL ON ACCOUNT OF THE WAR."-Three - or four Irishmen in this village have become greatly alarmed on account of war and rumors of war. A few days since their wives (the women are the financial members of Irish partnerships) went to the Savings Institution and drew out their deposits by getting checks on the Bank of Brattleboro. On these checks they demanded and received the gold which they deliberately counted, found all right, and re-deposited-not in Bank-but in-their old stockings! "An sure there'll be war-r," was the reason assigned for this summary "removal of the deposits."
