MELANCHOLY BRIDE TAKES VARNISH. Mrs. George Saunders of West Derby, a bride of about four months, Thursday swallowed 11 large quantity of varnish with suicidal intent. She had been in deep melancholy during the morning, and while her husband was out of the house she took the bottle from a closet. The liquid burned the stomach and her cries attract001 attention. She informed her husband on his return that she had taken the draught. and he notified a physician, who relieved her sufferings. She may recover. SETTLEMENT FOR DEFUNCT BANK. A meeting of the stockholders and creditors of the Bradford Savings Bank & Trust Co. of Bradford was held Thursday by order of the Hon. James M. Tyler, chancellor. This bank was adjudged insolvent February 1. 1898, and James B. Hale of Newbury was appointed receiver. The creditors have so far received 60 per cent. in dividends, and the meeting Thursday was ordered upon a petition of the receiver to see if the creditors would anthorize him to accept a compromise of $5,000, which he had been offered in settlement of his claim against the stockholders. It was voted to accept the proposition of the stockholders. This amount will be available for a final dividend soon and the affairs of the institution will be wound up.
