Description

Multiple legal notices show the Bank of the Valley in Virginia placed in the hands of a court-appointed receiver (H. G. Fant) following a decree (deed of assignment dated 1866 declared valid June 10, 1868). This indicates the bank was in receivership/being wound up rather than experiencing a depositor run. A public sale of bank lands was ordered for Sept 19, 1868. OCR dates vary (one notice has Jan 7, 1869) but core court notices are dated June 12, 1868. Cause of closure appears to be enforcement of a deed of assignment (voluntary assignment) and court receivership; because the materials emphasize assignment and receivership, I classify the episode as a suspension leading to permanent closure. Bank type not specified in texts; not clearly a National/State/Trust institution.
