Description

Multiple legal notices (Apr–Jun 1822) refer to the late Merchants' Bank of Alexandria and trustees (Swann, Auld, Lee) appointed to sell the bank's property and report on claims. This indicates the bank had ceased operations and its assets were being liquidated under chancery/assignment. No newspaper text describes a depositor run or temporary suspension; the bank appears permanently closed and in trusteeship/receivership. Dates: sale advertised for June 1, 1822 and postponed to June 13, 1822. OCR errors corrected (e.g., 'Alexanaria' -> Alexandria).
