FARMERS AND MECHANICS' SAVINGS BANK. Suit was brought in the Circuit Court for Alexandria city to day by John A. Marshall, of Burk's Station. Fairtax county, by his counsel, F. L. Smith, jr., on behalf of himself and other creditors. against the Farmers and Mechanics' Savings bank of this city. At the same time notice was served that application would be made to Judge Keith, at bis chambers, in Warrenton, on Saturday next, the 20th inst., for the appointment of a receiver of the assets of the bank.

FARMERS AND MECHANICS' SAVINGS BANK. The petition for the appointment of a receiver in the case of John A. Marshall VS. the Farmers and Mechanies' Savings Baok of this city, was presented to Judge Keitb, in cham bers, at Leesburg. yesterday evening. Arga ment Was made by Messrs F. L. Smith, jr., and S. C. Neale. for the depositors, and S. F. Beach, for the Bank. After hearing the argo ment, the Judge took the papers and reserved his decision.

EPISCOPAL CHURCH NoTEs.-The vestries of the various Episcopal Churches. recently elected, have organized and elected officers and appointed delegates to the State Council, which meets in Lynchburg. on the 15th inst. Wheelook of Fort Wayne, Indiana. who his leased the exten ive foundry and machine shops, owned by General Munford, at Lycehburg, and is W on ans way there, to take charge. Rev. E. Wall, late of Paisley, Oatario, who has been called to the rectorship of the Epis copal Church, at Calpeper C. H., view Rev. Mr. Minnegerode, removed to Kentucky. passed through here yesterday, co route for his new field of labor. He is a son of Rev. Mr. Wall, who officiated in this city during the Lite war. POLICE ITEMS.-There was only one case at the Mayor's office this morning. that of Wen. H. Whiting. colored, charged with allowing disorderly conduct at his restaurant. on King street, who was required to give security 10 keep an orderly house. Georgeanna Day, colored. was before Justice Thompson, charged by Gus Beyant, alias "Red Hot," with assaulting him. The charge was not sustained and the costs being assessed against the complainant he became so obstrep erous that he was looked up for intempt of court. U.S. COURTS.-Judge Hughes presiding.Circuit Court --Willhams VS. Metcalf; in chan ery; order allowing plaintiff to file amended bill. District Court -lore Wm. J. Swords; bankrupt; order authorizing assignee to sell lease held by the bankrupt. In TO A. C. Sauoder: bankrupi; order con Iming sale and directing additional exemption 10 the bankrupt. to re John Powell; bankrupt; order confirm or sale of part of bankrupt's real estate. Adjourned tominie to be hereafter named. RECEIVER APPOINTED.-Judge Keith, in chambers, at Leesburg. has considered and wranted the petition for the appointment of a Receiver, in the case of John A. Marshall VS. the Farmers and Mechanies' Savings Bank of this city, and has designated Mr. James 11. Reid, Cashier of the German Banking Company, as such Receiver. REGISTRATION.-The registration books will 18 opened at the usual places in the several WAL 13 of this city on the 14:b, 15th and 16th instant for the purpose of revising the lists and adving such names as may be entitled thereto. Fish REPORT-There has been ao change in the receipts of fish, since yesterday They amount to about 1. 000 hadaed 80 000 herriogs. Shad brought $12ai 5 per burdred and herring $6 5057 per thousand. BROWN BREAD.-Three eupsgrahanr a our, one cup corn meal, two cups cold water. half cup molasses, two teaspoons DOOLEY'L YEAST POWDER, with salt to suit taste. Mix the powder with the flour and meal while dry.-Bake an hour and 24 hall in a slow oven, with paperover the top.
