Slaton Planning For A New Bank ton business men Thursday were at work on plans to reorganize their two closed banks into one strong financial institution. The First State bank, oldest of two financial institutions doing business in Slaton over a period of recent years, did not open its doors Thursday. A sign prominently posted read: "Closed and in the hands of Examiner for the protection of depositors.' The Slaton State bank suspended operations Sept. 21. 1931. The First State's January statement showed deposits of approximately $75,000, Mayor T. M. George said today. The Mayor also reported that re-organization plans were well under way. John Brewer was president of the First State and R. J. Murray of the Slaton State.
