GALVESTON LIGHT HOUSE. Representative Hawley Informed the Work Will Begin Very Soon. POSTOFFICES IN HAWLEY'S DISTRICT. He Will Be Largely Governed by the Wants of Patrons of the Different Officers. Washington, April 12.-(Special).-If it is decided to appoint a receiver for the Comanche National bank of Comanche, Mr. Thornton of Texarkana. it was said today, will be the gentleman appointed. Representative Hawley today saw the chief of the light house board relative to the building of a light house at Galveston, for which congress has appropriated $35,000. The delay in beginning the work is dus to the shifting about of the engineers. The engineer in charge of the work on the coast will be in Galveston in a few days and the work on the coast will begin In Galveston immediately. Mr. Hawley does not seem to be in any hurry to take up the matter of appointing fourth-class postmasters in his district. His idea is to leave the question of selecting the postmasters to the patrons of the office, and the man the majority of the patrons want will be satisfactory to him. This does not necessarily mean that there will be no fight, but it means that the contests will be narrowed down to two or three applicants, instead of a dozen. Dr. Grant, the national committeeman, from Texas, said today that if the appointment of the postmaster for Paris and Beeville were considered Green victories, then he would be perfectly satisfied that all the other Federal appointments in Texas should be considered Green victories on the same score. It is well known here that the appointments of the Paris and Beeville postmasters were made solely on Grant's recommendations.
