EARLY DAKOTA TOWN IS DEAD Wheeler Once a County Seat-Courthouse Is Now a Barn. (Special Dispatch to The Journal.) Wheeler, S. D., April The picturesque and historic town of Wheeler is dead. For several years it was thought this was the best site on the river for railroad bridge, and many visions of great town falled to materialize. The county seat was located here for many years and there was well patronized ferry and two high steel towers, one on either side of the Missouri, to connect with Beginning TODAY-Thursday Bonesteel by telephone. There is no telephone now and star route between Geddes and Bonesteel distributes the mail in roadside mail boxes for the six families living here. The oldest building is the hotel built in 1879, and now the residence of one family. An old bank building, with its stone vault, stands empty. Several of the present inhabitants have been here from the beginning. Sam Truman has been there since 1872.
