LOCAL NEWS. The ladies of Horn's Creek church realized thirty odd dollars from the sale of thair dinner on Sacurday last. Among the guests in attendance upon the Lawton-Boykin wedding none were more cordially greeted than were Mrs. G. P. Cobb and Miss Sue Sloan from Johnston. Mr. I. A. Speights, of Georgetown, was a welcomed visitor to our town last week. He came to see his sisters, Mrs. E. H. Folk and Mrs. S. A. Brunson. Mr. M. R. Wright, who is Johnston's leading dry goods merchant, and Miss Ella Mobley, one of Johnston's most popular young ladies, were guests of Miss Elizabeth Hill, at "Breeze Hill" on Sunday last. We-notice with pleasure that at the recent election of officers of the Euphradian literary society of the South Carolina college our young friend Buist Anderson was elected literary critic. Buist ib & hard student and is making a splendid record at college There will be a union thanksgiving service in our Presbyterian church on Thursday afternoon to which everybody 18 cordially invited. Certainly our people have much for which they should render thanks, and we trust that they will attend this service which will be made very interesting. Mrs. J. E. Haltiwanger, after a very pleasant sojourn of six weeks in New York with ber sister, returned on Thursday last. Her many friends, as well as homefolks greatly missed her during the long absence and have greeted her very cordially upon her return. Thosé who have money to invest in real estate can find no better time to make the investment than right now. The consensus of opinion is that all agricultural lands will steadily advance in price. In this issue we advertise valuable lands for sale. Four tracts of the Bettis estate will be sold. Mark our prediction. It will not be many months before Mr. J. L. Addison will be in the employment of the Southern as a regular conductor. While Capt. Rice was off duty several days last week entertaining friends and relatives who attended the Lawton-Boykin wedding Capt. Addison discharged the duties of conductor on the Gap road very acceptably. It seems that marriage liberates the compressed feet of some ladies. We know of a lady (and she resides less than a mile from our sanctum, too) who wore number two shoes before her marriage and wears number five shoes now Girls, show your good sense by wearing fives now. Do not wait till after you marry (you might have to wear twos too long). In the court proceedings of our last issue we through error omitted the name of E. H. Folk, Esq., as one of the attorneys for the executors of the Budwell estate. Mr. Folk was one of the first attorneys employed by the executors of this handsome estate and he has, as is his wont, managed exceedingly well all of the business that they have entrusted to him. We have been requested by Mr. John M. Mays, chairman of the Federal election commissioners, to announce that the managers, clerks and commissioners of the Federal election can get the amount due them for services rendered by calling at the Bank of Edgefield. Urging them to do 80 is unnecessary, for they are certain to make a run on the bank as soon the above intelligence reaches them. While at Red Hill on Saturday last We met Mrs. Carrie Jowers who is principal of the Red Hill school. Mrs. Jowers is an exceedingly competent teacher. and the patrons of the 8 chool are cognizant of her real worth as a teacher and appreciate what she is doing for the intellectual development of thoir children.
