Description

Article (The State Herald 1899-01-01) reports a run threat and that the Bank of Superior 'suspended to-day' (Dec. 28). Subsequent Superior Times notices (1901โ€“1903) refer to Henry S. Butler as receiver of the Bank of Superior and court foreclosure actions, indicating the bank was placed in receivership and did not resume normal operations. I infer the run led to suspension and eventual closure/receivership. Date in the first article is Dec 28 (newspaper dated Jan 1, 1899) so I take 1898-12-28 for the suspension/run date. Bank is identified as a Wisconsin corporation (no 'National' in name), so classified as a state bank.
