BANK TO ANNIVERSARY Total Resources Of Institution Have Increased From $150,000 At End Of First Year To About Two Million Dollars At Present Time Have Modern And Banking House One of Shippensburg"s most successful business and financial institutions, the Peoples National Bank, will celebrate its anniversary, when the doors of the institution open business on Saturday morning. Just 25 years ago the local bank opened its doors for business in what was then called the W. E. Shapley building, now occupied by the Gossert Shoe store. A small room was rentby the officers and directors of the bank while the present cashier, Howard Ryder and Robinson held sway as the only employes of the institution. At that time the bank only enjoyed capital of $50,000 with no surplus. Today the institution has capital surplus of $175,000 and undivided profits of $35,000. Cashier Ryder came to Shippensburg from the First National Bank Greencastle while Mr. Robinson actas teller and bookkeeper for the bank. Today there are eight employes the bank including Mr. Ryder. Seven years ago the officers and directors of the institution felt the need of modern and bankhouse and erected the fine structwhich now graces the north side of East King street, the intersection of King street and Apple avenue. Since occupying the new building the banking house has taken over Trust powers. When the trust powers taken over on July 1925, the institution increased its capital from $50,000 to $125,000. This was another great step for the bank as being an added service to its depositors. Another interesting item to be found among the statements of the banking house since was first organized in 1903, is the great increase in the institution's total The resources. resources at the end of the first year's business amounted to $150,000 while at the end of the eleventh year the bank had total resource of $460,160. Today the bank can list sources of about two million dollars. These figures show very rapid stride business despite several periods of depression which included "run" on the bank several years after had opened. during this particular "run" that the institution made solid foundation for itself meeting every demand with cash. A new service patrons of the bank was started some time ago when night deposit vault was installed the bank for the use of those who desired change after banking hours. The new building has an interior measurement of 54x56 feet and modern throughout. On Saturday morning the officers and employes of the bank will be glad to greet their patrons in honor of the anniversary. The original officers and directors of the bank were: Auginbaugh, president; George W. Himes, vice president; Howard Ryder, cashier; Mr. Aughinbaugh, Mr. Himes, Omwake, K. Clever, B.
