TELEGRAPHIC SUMMARY. Capt. Boynton passed Memphis yesterday. Chicago grain market to-day wheat, 86; corn, 31 ; whiskey, 104. The President has nominated W. H. Payne pension agent at San Francisco. A distinct earthquake shock was felt at Norfolk, New York, Monday morning. The senate has confirmed Arthur L. Thomas, of Pittsburgh, secretary of Utah territory. John P. Phair, hanged in Vermont last Thursday, left a statement declaring his innocence. The Providence Savings Bank and Trust Company of Scranton, Pa., has suspended, liabilities $100,000. The duke of Argyle will shortly reach this country, on his way to Canada, to visit his son, the Marquis of Lorne. A hailstorm occurred at Pensacola, Fla., yesterday, something unknown before in that locality. The hailstones were as large as eggs. Hezekiah Shaffer, sentenced to be hanged, next Thursday, in Chambersburg, Pa., opened the veins in his legs and arms this morning, and his recovery is doubtful. The funeral of the late Gen. Richard Taylor took place on Sunday, in New York city, from the church of the transfiguration. Among those present were Ex-Gov. Tilden, Ex-Mayor Wickham, Gen. Smith and Park Godwin. A shell, buried in the road, explode d near Prince Milan, while walking at Nish, Sunday. His aide-de-camp was wounded. It is not known whether the explosion was the result of a plot to assassinate the prince, or not. A dispatch from Berlin states that Germany, though entertaining no idea of annexing Samokin island, intends to protect German interests, and to prevent Americans from establishing themselves there to the detriment of other nations.
