# DIAMOND THIEF # FIGHTS DETECTIVE. A Rogue With Many Aliases Who Was Implicated In a Baltimore Robbery. PITTSBURG, Pa., Oct. 4.-Harry Diehm, alias Long, alias Neuman, alias Myers, known throughout the West and East as the "kid bank sneak," was arrested here to-day by detectives after a bitter struggle. Diehm has a long criminal record, having killed a policeman in Cincinnati, stolen a tray of diamonds in Baltimore, and also a lot of gems in Detroit. Two of his partners are now serving eight years in Maryland. Diehm had a record as a bank sneak in the West before coming to Pittsburg in February. He was then only 20 years old. He and "Mickey" Gleason, Sidney Yenni and two others were operating in the crowds attracted by a run on the German National Bank when spotted by detectives. On August 22, 1901, Diehm snatched a tray of diamonds valued at $5,000 from a jeweler's window in Detroit. Policemen and citizens gave chase. Diehm ran into a vacant house and changed his hat for a cap and coolly walked out. In Cincinnati, an officer sought to arrest Diehm in his boarding house. Sometime later the policeman was found dead in the room. Diehm was walking past the central office in this city this morning when Detectives Elmore and Seiffert were standing in the doorway. They recognized him and Elmore grabbed him. Diehm turned quickly and broke away from the officer. He was chased into an alley, where two shots were fired. As he was turning a corner he slipped and fell, the officers falling over him.
