EVANSTON BANK CLOSED. Beckwith & Co., Old Wyoming Concern, Ends Existnce. (Special to The Herald.) Evansten, Wyo., Nov. 15.-Considerable surprise was occasioned here this morning by the announcement that Beckwith & Co., bankers, had closed their doors. Financial troubles are given as the cause, and as the bank is one of the oldest in this part of the country there is some surprise that it should go under. Its condition has been shown to to be weak for some time, among financial institutions. The total assets. listed at par value, are said to be $356.000. The total liabilities are placed at $159.280. Your correspondent had a brief interview with the Beckwith brothers. and the receiver. George F. Chapman, at the bank office this evening. where they were very busy going through the accounts, and they are unable at the present time to make any statement. As soon as they can\ ascertain the exact condition they promise to make a statement for publication. This was one of the oldest banks in this state. It was established by the late A. C. Beckwith in 1870. A large number of poor people have their savings in this bank It is not thought any other business firm here will be affected.

EVANSTON, WYO. EXCITEMENT AND ANXIETY Caused by Closing of Beckwith Bank Severe Windstorm. Special Correspondence Evanston, Wyo., Nov. 15.-The closing of Beckwith & Co.'s bank here this morning has caused more excitement than anything which has occurred in the town before. Many poor people, whose entire savings had been deposited there in the hope that they would be safe and draw a small interest, wandered around town, up and down past the bank, hoping some assurance might be given that all was not lost. Nothing definite has been given out in the way of information. Mr. Geo. F. Chapman, president of the Neponset Land & Live Stock Co., has been appointed receiver, and is working hard to starighten out the tangle. A very severe wind storm is raging here today. The eleven-months' old child of Mr. and Mrs. Wheatley died Monday morning front an "inward convulsion," the doctor called it, caused by a fall the child sustained on Saturday, striking his forehead a very severe blow.
