LAST WEEK'S EVENTS IN WESTMORELAND A farewell party was held in honor of Esther Martz at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Franklin, Slickville. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A. Matson, of Slickville, announce the birth of a son, Clarence Albert Matson, Jr., March 6, 1933. Miss Francis Steele, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Steele, of New Alexandria was admitted to the Westmoreland hospital and underwent an operation recently. An unqualified demand for a tax reduction from 15 to 20 mills, made by a committee of large property owners and civic leaders, was before the Vandergrift School Board. Westmoreland county has been allocated $1,300 for the month of March by the State Emergency Relief Board at Harrisburg. This includes $970 for salaries and $330 for expenses. Loyalhanna Creek which empties into Conemaugh at Saltsburg, was reported the highest in five years, having raised 8 ft., doing much damage to properties in lower Latrobe and vicinity. Hundreds of publications on timely farm subjects, particularly the control of insects and diseases, are now being distributed from Mailing Room, Dept. of Agriculture, Harrisburg, and Westmoreland farmers should make application if interested.
