Description

Contemporary reports (Dec 27, 1905) state the American Bank & Trust Company suspended business along with Mechanics' Savings Bank after the Merchants' Trust Company closed and a receiver was appointed. Articles cite over-loans at Merchants' Trust as the cause; no runs are described and no definitive information about permanent closure or receivership for American Bank & Trust is given. Suspension appears related to allied institution's insolvency; I classify as suspension with eventual reopening likely but not documented here.
