Description

Articles (Mar–Sep 1871) show People's/Peoples Bank in chancery with a receiver (Thos/TE Oldham, R.M. McClung mentioned). Court-directed receiver actions (reports, paying money into court, loaning funds out, allowance of receiver's fees) indicate the bank had been placed in receivership/suspended by court action. No articles report a depositor run or later reopening; thus classified as suspension leading to closure/receivership. OCR variation in name (People's vs Peoples) noted but clearly same bank in Knoxville chancery records.
