ANOTHER OHIO BANK FAILS. Marietta, Ohio, March 17.-The Commercial Bank of Macksburg. this county, a State institution, closed its doors to-day. It was heavily involved in the failure of the Commercial Bank of Cambridge. Depositors will be paid in full, the stockholders being the only losers. A receiver will be asked for. No statement has been given out.

WESTERN. Rev. Dr. C. C. Rawlinson of Kenton, Ohio, was unanimously elected president of Hiram (Ohio) college. Twelve persons were injured, three probably fatally, in a wreck on the Erie railroad near Winfield, Ind. Three men were seriously injured, one of them fatally, in an explosion in a dome at the Central blast furnace at Cleveland, Ohio. The lower house of the Minnesota Legislature passed a bill which appropriates $25,000 for a Minnesota exhibit at the Lewis and Clarke exposition at Portland. Thomas E. Pepper, aged 62, millionaire member of a famous whisky firm of Lexington, was married in Springfield, Ohio, to Grace Appleby, aged 30, of Providence, R. I. Charles J. and Frank M. Hlinka, brothers, and partners in business, were found dead in their office in Chicago from wounds supposed to have been inflicted by the former. A tornado struck Porch, a small town near Hobart, Okla., killing one man. J. E. and Charles Jones were fatally injured and sixteen 0 thers hurt. Sixteen houses were demolished. The Colorado Legislature declared Peabody elected Governor after he had given a pledge to resign at once and surrender the place to Lieut. Gov. McDonald. Adams surrendered the office. A new geyser has made its appearance in Norris Basin, Yellowstone Park. It has been named the "Skyrocket," and its coming is believed to mean the death of the "Constant" geyser in the same basin. In a scene of riot and but fifteen minutes before the time for final adjournment, the Missouri Legislature elected Major William Warner of Kansas City United States Senator, ending the deadlock which had existed since Jan, 18. Mayor Fleischmann of Cincinnati issued an order directing the police to cause the removal of all slot machines in Cincinnati. It is estimated that 10,000 of these machines are operated there, doing a daily business amounting to $35, *000 The household property of Mrs. Cassie L. Chadwick was sold at auction in Cleveland to A. D. Nelson of New York for $25,200. There were twenty bidders. Mr. Nelson bought the Chadwick property for an art gallery in New York City. Fire in the Victoria Theater building in Dayton, Ohio, caused the dismissal of the audience in the third act. There was no panic, the assembly passing out quietly. Miss Rose Coghlan in "Diplomacy" was at the theater. The loss is estimated at $3,000. John Schneider of Kansas City and Joseph Martin of Moline, Ill., held up and robbed Edgar Montague of Janesville of a gold watch and $5 in money. Within ten hours' time the men were arrested, tried and sent for two years each to State's prison. H. Clay Pierce, reputed to be a multimillionaire, has organized his estate into a trust, the first corporation of the kind in Missouri and possibly in the country formed primarily to safeguard the interests of the organizer's heirs.
