Mead of Fort Worth, Texas, has been appoined by the federal court receiver of the Standard Light and Power company of Dallas, upon application of the General Electric company of New York. Concordia, Kan., Jan. 11.-A. E. Patterson, ex-city treasurer of Clyde, was found guilty today in the district court of embezzling $5,000 of the city's money. Atlanta, Ga., Jan. 11.-A proclamation calling for a "McKinley Day" will not be issued by Governor Candler, because under the laws of the state he is not authorized to issue such a proclamation. Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Jan 11.-The home of Henry Plaunt, was destroyed by fire early today and the eleven inmates barely escaped with their lives. Four members of the family were horribly burned in making their escape from the house. Knoxville, Tenn, Jan. 11.-It has been decided to present Admiral Schley a handsome gold and silver loving cup on the occasion of his visit here February 5 and 6. Birmingham, Ala., Jan. 11.-The Opera House hotel, First avenue and 19th street, was partially destroyed by fire early today. The house was full of guests, but all escaped without injury. Washington, Jan. 11.-A cablegram received at the state department from United States Consul General Bingham at Capetown announced the acquittal and release of Dr. Richard S. Anthony, who has been on trial there on a charge of high treason and aiding the enemy. Springfield, Ky., Jan. 11.-Jim Mays, colored, charged with assaulting a white girl, was hanged by a mob today. London. Jan. 11.-The papers here announce that the coronation of King Edward will be marked by an international tournament in London, in which the world's champions in boxing, wrestling, fencing and other branches of sport will compete. Painesville, O., Jan. 11.-The People's Bank of this city closed its doors today on account of the suspension of the Euclid avenue Trust and Savings company of Cleveland. Richmond, Ind., Jan. 11.-It is announced today that by gifts from Sarah Hollingsworth and Zacariah Stanley, late prominent Indianans, $40,000 has been added to the endowment of Earlham college. St. Louis, Jan. 11.-The car sheds of the Bellefontaine division of the St. Louis Transit company, were burned today and a large number of summer cars destroved. The loss is estimated at about $60,000; fully insured. Santiago de Chili, Jan. 11.-Via Galveston.)-The extradition treaty between Chill and the United States has been approved by the Chilean congress. Pottsville. Pa., Jan. 11.-Reports of the eight mine inspectors of the anthracite coal regions show that only about one-fifth of the miners and laborers are American born.
