There was an unusually large amount o: sales at the Board to-day. some 3500 shares, of which over 1000 was Chemical Bank shares, closing at advance on the last sale. Mohawk improved 1, and Stocks generally were firmer Ohio Sixes improved 1. and other descriptions steady. Foreign Exchanges nominal at 51a53 for S.erling and"5 45 a 171 for Francs. There is so little doing in Alabama to-day that a correct quotation cannot be given. Bank Mobile S. Notes are 50 percent and Treasury Notes t prem. Dont touch Moomouth Bank Notes. The redemption of small susis is refused every day by the agent, the Clinton Bank. The Bank of Louisville has declared a dividend of three per cent, payable at the Bank of North America, Philadelpbia, 16th inst. The Mobile Insurance Company has declared a semi-annual dividend of ten per cent on the capital stock of that institution, making sixteen per cent paid to the stockholders within the last year. This company was chartered in 1851, and since that period it has paid losses to more than twice the amount of its capital, while it has declared dividends of one hundrred and seventy-five per cent to the stockholders. A joint resolution passed the Senate of Alabama on the 27th of December, suspended the banking powers of the Branches at Mobile and Decatur until farther order by the Legislature. The correspondent of the Mobile Register says that there is no doubt that the Mobile Branch will be closed and very little of the closing of that at Decatur. The bill which we alluded to some days since as being before the Illinois House of Representatives, for winding up the State Bank passed to its third reading on the 30th Dec by a vote of 134 to 5. Judge Bailbacher, a member, writes to the Alton Telegraph that the Bank will be wound up. The Farmers' and Mechanics' Bank et Steubenville, Ohio, have appointed John Andrews, Jas. Means, Jas. Wilson. FRIDAY, Jan. 13 ASHES-There has been a little waking up among the dealers and the market for Pots has fairly opened at 5 50 for the inspection of the present year. The sales to-day have been about 175 Pots at 5 50 for 1843, and for 1842 In Pearls wecan hear of nothing doing. There appears to be no buyers at $ 7 00. BEESWAX-We netice sales of 1500 lbs Southern at 28 a 28¥ CLOTHS-The Worcester Spy states that a SherifP's sale of 72 cases of Broad Cloths, and 45 cases of Cassimeres, took place in that town a IEW days since. A considerable number of purchasers were present from Boston and New-York The competition was animated, and considering the lateness of the season, the depression of the times, and that the sale was for cash, good prices were obtained, though con. siderably below what goods of the same description have usually brought at private sale. These Cloths were manufactured by the Dudley Manufacturing Company. COTTON-The sales to-day, as far as we CRR hear, are about 800 bales. The market is not stiff. We can quote no actual decline in rates, but prices are rather in favor of the buyer. We quote fair Upland, round, 64 R 63; square, 7 fair New Orleans and Alabama, 71 a 7t. We cannot perceive any effect from the late foreign news, excepting, perhaps, it has increased the propensity, always strong enough ou the part of the bayer to demand concessions.
