NEW-YORK CITY. The XVIIIth Assembly District Republican Assoclation held a meeting at No. 457 Fourth-ave, last evening, Wilmerding presiding in the absence of the President, Alderman Howland. Wilmerding was nominated for Treas urer and was elected. Fifty new members were elected. Information has been received at the office of St. John Guild that some person is soliciting aid for a Mrs. Hutchinson ef No. 84 Perry claiming to be authorized by the Guild The officers of the Gaild state that they employ no solicitors, and any one who asks money in its name should be handed to the proper authorities. Coroner Woltman was informed yesterday that Mary Koehler had died at No. Stanton st., from smallpox, making three deaths in that vicinity within two days. From information obtained at the ofder of the Board of Health appears that when case of small pox occurs the neighbors do they can to prevent the facts reaching the authorities, until death makes it unavoidable. The laundry of Vincent Johnson, in Forty-thirdst., near Second-ave., was forced open late on Thursday night, and It was discovered that 100 sheets belonging to the Wagner Sleeping car Company had been carried away. The Sheridan Pool Duane was also late on Thursday night of between $200 and $300 worth of cloths and sewing silks. The Commissioners of Charities and Correction. at their meeting yesterday, appointed Dr. Thomas H. Manley AS junior assistant physician of the Park Hospital; Dr. Clifford M. Stella as senior assistant physician of the Reception Hos. pital at Dr. Frank B. Burnell to be junior assistant physician the Ninety ninth Street Hospita and Dr. Peter John Popoff to assistant physician at the Nursery Hospital at Randall's Island. The suit of the Rev. George II. Woodward against William H. Youngs, for slander and defamation of character, was tried yesterday, before Justice Semier, in the Sixth Dis trict Court. The testimony showed that the defendant had used profane and obscene language toward Mr. Woodward, and had also ned him with personal violence. Yonngs was found guilty, and bound over to keep the peace. The con gregation of the Evergreen Avenue Methodist Church has instated Mr. Woodward as its pastor, and has withdrawn from the Methodist Conference. JERSEY CITY. City Controller Carman reports the receipts of the past week to have been $30,256 62. The City Treasurer reported balance in the bank of $43,437 79. Robert McCaffrey and Walter Bingham were committed yesterday, in default of $1,000 ball, to answer for an atrocions assault on John Toomey. The trial of Alexander D.
